So the popular opinion is that one way inbound links are gold, especially if they're on theme. Now here's the thing - i genuinely like a couple of the sites that link to me and see them as a good resource for my readers. BUt if i link back to them will i lose the benefit of the one way inbound link? I suppose if there has been a significant time lag between the links then it may not be counted as the typical reciprocal. So what do i do? Think of my readers or the search engines? But what about mid-paragraph link exchange (http://www.linkwizard.net) i found at linkwizard site ?

IMO, target the audience. If you are selling a competitive product, then you may want to lean towards the search engine, but if the point of your site is getting (and keeping) eyes, then you should probably make it as useful for them as possible. If you like a site, link to it. If it's relavent, it shouldn't affect your search engine ranking ("should" as in "ideally," not "the way it is now").
